Western Isles Construction Training Group

Western Isles Construction Training Group.

The training group was the first group formed by ConstructionSkills in the Highlands and Islands area in November 2001, and has continued to successfully deliver training to construction companies throughout the Western Isles.

The group is committed to promoting training activity to the construction industry and its wider membership is open to all Construction employers and associated industries who wish to participate in training.

The group is committed to training in the following areas: Health & Safety, Apprenticeships, Craft Trades & Operatives and  Management & Supervisory.

Members are invited to complete Training & Development plans for their business on a yearly basis with ConstructionSkills so that training requirements can be delivered locally and training programmes are produced twice a year in Autumn/Winter and Spring containing as wide a variety of courses as is possible to deliver on the Islands.

The group also encourages member companies to highlight any individual training needs as this may result in the development of new training courses, we are also interested in promoting new training initiatives.

The group is always looking to increase the provision of courses in the area and is committed every year to deliver at least 200 training days. The group has been involved in several initiatives with the local education Department e.g. Year 2 Guidance Event at the Nicholson Inst, Construction Activity Days and involvement with the Roofing facility for school pupils at the Nicholson Institute. The group recognises the value of industry/education links and is keen to become more involved.

The group will be looking at the delivery of a new programme on Management & Leadership Development in the Western Isles to assist companies to improve skill levels in the company and efficiency and effectiveness of the business productivity.
